Since 2005, Tipping Point Community has raised more than $50 million to educate, employ, house and support nearly 160,000 Bay Area people in need.
Our board underwrites all operating and fundraising costs so that 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to the most effective poverty-fighting organizations in the Bay Area. We have no endowment; each year we start our fundraising efforts from zero. Everything we raise goes out the door within 12 months. Because we believe that education, housing, employment and wellness are all critical in the fight against poverty, we distribute all gifts across these four issue areas.
With more than 15,000 nonprofits in the Bay Area, so many people who want to do good in our community don’t know where to start. We do the homework for you. We've screened hundreds of non-profits and made more than 400 in-depth site visits to select and support 41 organizations with strong leadership, clean financials and measurable results in the fight against poverty.
Money alone isn’t enough. Beyond the dollars we invest, we leverage our connections across sectors to provide our groups with whatever they need to grow and increase their impact. Things like legal expertise, technology upgrades and database implementation, fundraising and communications training, and strategic planning are provided to our groups at no cost to donors to maximize the return on their philanthropic investment.
General Operating Support
More than 80% of money given to non-profits goes directly to program costs, leaving little behind for operations. But you can’t run great programs without strong infrastructure. Tipping Point grants are unrestricted, allowing our groups to invest in the strategy, operations and staffing required to serve their clients most effectively.
